The city of Richmond has provided free overdose prevention supplies through 24/7 vending machines at Marshall Plaza, Southside Plaza, and East End Library since early July. The program includes naloxone, fentanyl test strips, and sanitary products— the Southside Plaza machine was vandalized and scheduled for repair in late August, but the initiative continues.

The RVA East End Festival will be held on Sept 27 at Chimborazo Park from noon to 7 p.m. and will feature headliners including Lenny Holmes, James Saxsmo Gates, the Dap Mallory Band, and the Richmond Symphony to support music programs at Richmond Public Schools East End — the event is free with donations encouraged.
Richmond police identified Christopher Barlow, 47, as the man fatally shot over the weekend on Sussex Street in the Whitcomb neighborhood—officers arrived at 8:52 a.m. and pronounced him dead at the scene.
