  • The new standalone Sephora south of the river in Richmond is set to open today at 10 a.m. at 3002 Stony Point Road Suite B in the Trader Joe’s-anchored Stony Point Village shopping center — expanding the retailer's regional presence to six locations.  6 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A man walked into a Richmond police precinct and confessed he had killed someone in a Chesterfield home about a month ago — officers responded on Wednesday at around 2 p.m. and found the victim's body.  6 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Virginia Department of Education said it will resume releasing the history instructional guides in April to help teachers use updated standards. Interim Superintendent Emily Anne Gullickson explained the guides now include added web links — though some education leaders have raised concerns about the rollout timeline.  Virginia Mercury

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Governor Glenn Youngkin signed new laws to help mothers by expanding midwife care and setting rules for emergency help—he also made changes to a bill on bias training so the state will review it again next year.  Virginia Mercury
  • Richmond Mayor Danny Avula presented his $3B budget plan for fiscal year 26 that starts July 1 — the plan raises pay for city workers, increases utility rates by an average of $12.83 per month, and cuts funds for nonprofits and schools. The proposal now goes to City Council for public review and amendments with a final vote expected on May 12.  VPM

  • VCU introduced its new men's basketball head coach Phil Martelli Jr. on Thursday at the Siegel Center at 11:30 a.m. He left Bryant University with a 43-25 record and said he was excited to raise VCU’s high standards—following previous coach Ryan Odom’s departure for Virginia earlier this month.  12 On Your Side
