- ➤ The Rotary Club of Innsbrook and the Rotary Club of Western Henrico unveiled a $10,000 early learning trail with 10 interactive stations at Short Pump Park on March 26—followed by a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 27. The project is designed to give preschoolers an outdoor learning experience and boost school readiness in the local community. Richmond Magazine

- ➤ Fountain Bookstore owner Kelly Justice will open a new store this spring at 1307 E. Cary St.—a former tech repair shop that nearly doubles its bookselling area—while keeping the current shop at 1312 for events. - ➤ Frank Bryant Wyatt received a suspended sentence in a Georgia courtroom on March 5—days before he killed his father in a Chesterfield County home on March 10—and later confessed at a Richmond police station; he is now held in Chesterfield County Jail with a bond hearing set for April 1. 6 News
- ➤ An innocent bystander was killed after being hit by gunfire around 6 p.m. on Friday in Mosby Court near Coalter and Redd Streets — police have stopped a suspect along Interstate 64 east near Richmond International Airport where traffic is backed up. 6 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Richmond City Council received three Earth Month proposals from the Office of Sustainability to cut waste in the city — the proposals include a plastic bag tax, a penalty for balloon releases, and a ban on polystyrene in takeout containers. If approved, the bag tax may bring in nearly $400,000 a year as the city works to meet waste reduction targets in Richmond300 and RVAGreen2050. VPM
- ➤ Richmond Mayor Danny Avula presented the fiscal year 2026 budget proposal to city council on Thursday. The $3 billion plan does not raise taxes — it provides $18.6 million for employee salaries, technology and police vehicles while reducing funds for nonprofits and schools, with council set to review changes until the end of May. - ➤ Virginia native Gladys West, a 94 year old mathematician who helped create GPS technology, reflected on her 42 year career and said she loves Williamsburg—her favorite spring break spot recommended by Virginia tourism officials. - ➤ Scott M. Strayer, M.D. leads VCU’s Department of Family Medicine and Population Health and draws on his early life in Southeast Asia and Latin America to guide new training programs that will boost patient care.
