- ➤ Jilan Hall-Johnson plans to open Sassy’s, a brunch spot, in the former Butterbean Market & Café space at 1200-1206 Hull St in Manchester. The new restaurant is a spinoff of her Billings, Montana operation The Sassy Biscuit — it will offer breakfast dishes. 6 News
- ➤ Dominion Energy of Richmond is proposing to add over $21 to a typical monthly bill by 2027. The company said it will raise fuel rates by $10.92 on July 1 and base rates by $8.51 on January 1, 2026, and by another $2 on January 1, 2027 — noting the increases will help cover rising costs in labor, materials and grid upgrades. 6 News

- ➤ Richmond police identified Lamont Hawley-Barrow, age 24, as a victim in a double shooting that took place Monday night at the corner of Azalea Avenue and Chamberlayne Road around 6:30 p.m.—he was taken to a hospital where he died while a second victim, a woman with a gunshot wound that is not life-threatening, was also treated. 6 News
- ➤ A bond hearing for the Chesterfield man charged with killing his father was postponed Tuesday after his public defender agreed with prosecutors’ request for a mental health test—he was arrested after allegedly strangling and pushing his father down the stairs during a March 23 fight, and his next hearing is set for June 5. 6 News

- ➤ The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is opening Frida: Beyond the Myth on April 5, featuring over 60 works by Frida Kahlo and running through Sept. 28. The exhibit offers events such as FridaFest on April 5, a talk with Hayden Herrera on April 25, and a screening of the film Frida on April 26 — tickets cost $10 to $20 —. Richmond Magazine

- ➤ VCU will hold Research Weeks from April 3 to April 24 to spotlight research innovations with events such as a cancer symposium on April 3 and a state research address on April 15. The university recently reached over $500 million in sponsored funding and ranked among the top 50 public research universities (a milestone recognized by its research community) as registration for all events is free. - ➤ A boy at Bon Air Juvenile Correctional Center in Chesterfield County wrote a letter in January describing harsh conditions that included being locked in his room and missing meals during a Super Bowl Sunday disturbance when a cell block caught fire. Emergency services responded to 45 calls from the facility over the past year, and officials said staffing shortages have led to recurring fires — raising concerns that incidents may continue until reforms are made. - ➤ Richmond is holding its People’s Budget vote as residents age 14 and older choose how to use $3 million via pop-up events and online voting from April 1 to April 15—voters use ranked choice voting to rank several projects—with funds divided among districts to support improvements like bus routes, tree plantings, and sidewalks; results will be posted by April 21.
