- ➤ Richmond’s Southside Community Center held a ribbon cutting on March 20, unveiling a $20 million renovation that added a boxing studio, gyms, dance and music studios, playgrounds and an indoor walking track—funded by grants, city funds and American Rescue Plan money. The center will open for full-time hours on Monday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.—and it offers programs designed to give kids and teens a safe space for learning and play. 6 News

- ➤ On Thursday, hundreds of ceramic butterflies filled the Virginia Holocaust Museum foyer as part of the Butterfly Project to honor the 1.5 million children lost during the Holocaust—local students helped create this tribute. The installation marked the first event in Virginia and will grow to nearly 10,000 pieces as more students join the project—ensuring that the past is remembered. 6 News
- ➤ The Valentine’s Richmond History Tours resume in April with guided explorations of local historic sites — beginning with a tour of Scott’s Addition at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 5 — and continue with History Hounds dog-friendly tours on April 13 plus special May tours marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. - ➤ Dominion Energy Virginia asked state regulators to approve a 15% base rate increase that would raise a typical residential bill from $140.65 to $162.06. The company, which has not raised base rates since 1992, said the hike will cover higher fuel costs, new construction and grid upgrades—steps that will be reviewed in hearings over the next year. VPM

- ➤ Mayor Danny Avula unveiled his first $3B budget proposal for fiscal 2026 that directs nearly $50M to housing initiatives and allocates almost 25% of the general funds to Richmond Public Schools while keeping property taxes unchanged — he also announced new city roles and salary raises for eligible workers. The proposal, which has drawn criticism from school leaders and local nonprofits over cuts and insufficient funding, will be reviewed by City Council ahead of a vote on May 12 — concerns remain over reduced grants and school funding shortfalls. - ➤ Richmond officials released the final report on January’s water crisis on Thursday — the report said the water plant lost power for 80 minutes by using Winter Mode without a backup power source. The report gives short- and long-term fixes, and city officials have begun making changes, including running the plant in Summer Mode with two power feeds to stop future outages. 12 On Your Side
- ➤ Richmond released its final report on the water crisis that left thousands without drinkable water for nearly a week in January. The report finds that a power failure before 5 a.m. triggered miscommunication which delayed the boil water advisory until 4:30 p.m. — and it also noted long delays in overdue upgrades — adding to the severity of the crisis. 6 News
