- ➤ On U—Richmond’s jewelry brand—moved from its seven-year Grove Avenue location to a dual studio and retail cottage at 7008 W. Franklin St. near the Village Shopping Center; owner Donna Silvestri said the new space will soon offer jewelry making and basket weaving classes as well as custom orders. Richmond Magazine
- ➤ Wendy and John Yohman, owners of Jake’s Place in Ashland, are preparing to open Jake’s Bullpen at 3312 N. Arthur Ashe Blvd—just north of The Diamond—in Richmond, taking over the space that most recently housed Ellie's Hot Dogs and Ice Cream. They have run their Ashland restaurant for over a decade and plan to bring their signature barbecue to the city. 6 News

- ➤ Richmond Police said a 17-year-old North Chesterfield girl was shot and killed after her body was found at Ancarrow’s Landing on April 17th just after 10 p.m.—detectives linked the fatal shooting to evidence collected from an earlier scene on West Broad Street. 12 On Your Side
- ➤ Family members said 35-year-old Larry Hill was shot and killed during a funeral at Oakwood Cemetery (3100 block of Nine Mile Road) just after 2:40 p.m. Wednesday when an argument broke out between two attendees. 12 On Your Side
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 18th, over 100 people protested at VCU over the termination of visas for at least 35 international students on Virginia campuses, with demonstrators demanding that the university stand with affected students—calling for sanctuary campuses to protect student rights. Federal officials have not explained the cancellations, and legal experts say they may violate due process—raising fears among international students. VPM
- ➤ VCU’s vice president for research and innovation, P. Srirama Rao, gave his 2025 State of Research address on Tuesday and said the school’s research is strong as funding grew to over $500 million with big gains since 2018. He noted that several federal grants were paused—yet the university remains one of the nation’s top 50 public research schools. Virginia Commonwealth University
