- ➤ VCU physics majors and Professor Patrick Woodworth led a hands-on science session at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School, where they used a Van de Graaff generator to show seventh-graders how static electricity works and electromagnets to explain magnetic fields. - ➤ NOAA laid off 650 workers back in February so farmers are worried because they rely on its weather forecasts for growing crops and caring for animals—weather balloon launches were reduced from twice to once a day. - ➤ City Manager Avula proposed a 3.25% raise for all city workers while Councilwoman Abubaker pushed an amendment to cut the raises for non-union employees earning over $150K amid proposed spending cuts—officials argue the increases help retain talent in tough economic times.
