- ➤ Working-class residents in Richmond facing deportation and eviction now have new legal help from the Richmond Community Legal Fund, which aims to fill gaps in local legal aid services. Board member Charlie Schmidt said his team set aside $1,000 for an emergency defense fund for two Richmond fathers detained by ICE—the group will celebrate its launch today at Studio Two Three on W. 15th St. Richmond Free Press

- ➤ On Wednesday night, Richmond police said three people were shot off East Brookland Park Boulevard—no further details on their condition were released. 12 On Your Side

- ➤ The ¿Qué Pasa? Festival will return to Brown’s Island on May 3 to celebrate Hispanic heritage with music, dance, food and art in downtown Richmond. Hosted by the Virginia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, the event will feature local and international performances—family-friendly activities and vendor booths from Latino-owned businesses that support educational programs. - ➤ Historic Garden Week will begin tomorrow, April 26, and run through May 3 with 29 tours that raise funds to restore nearly 50 historic public gardens. Fifteen private home tours in Richmond include visits in Lower Tuckahoe on April 29, Pope Avenue on April 30, and Chatham Hills on May 1 — events organized by local garden clubs. 6 News
- ➤ University of Richmond unveiled a $7 million stone wall — decorated with faces, engraved messages and a water feature — at the Burying Ground to honor enslaved laborers buried on campus; the memorial at 112 UR Drive is free to the public. - ➤ VCU Brandcenter hosted its reverse job fair on April 23-24 where 84 students shared their creative work with 100 recruiters in person—another 100 recruiters received their portfolios by email—an event that has run for over 20 years and featured both national firms like Google and local companies such as Arts & Letters. - ➤ Today the Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court is hosting its 28th Annual Oliver Hill Day at the Oliver Hill Courts atrium to honor civil rights icon Oliver White Hill, Sr.—Mayor Danny Avula will speak and local student art contest winners will be recognized before a reception follows. - ➤ A Virginia Department of Health report found that staff complacency contributed to a January water treatment plant failure that left much of Richmond without running water. The report recommended almost $35 million for plant improvements and will lead to a notice of alleged violation that requires a corrective action plan from the city within 45 days—officials plan to review and integrate the recommendations as they move forward.
