- ➤ Chesterfield police answered a call about vehicle break-ins on the 2700 block of Addington Avenue just before midnight on Thursday—locating a man who was shot and seriously hurt and taking him to a local hospital—while keeping a suspect in custody so there is no danger to the public. 12 On Your Side
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Chanté Holt, a VCU staff member, returned to school after a 10-year break and earned her bachelor’s degree in 2022 — a journey that sparked her interest in urban planning — and she will receive her master’s degree in May from the L. Douglas Wilder School. She traveled to Germany last summer as part of a Trans-Atlantic Seminar and plans to return to Europe this year as a personal graduation present. - ➤ The Virginia Education Association said teachers might miss serving on the new grading committees, so state officials extended the application deadline to May 2 — noting that 72% of applicants are educators. - ➤ Dominion Energy Virginia filed a request on March 31 with the State Corporation Commission to raise rates by about $21 per month and proposed a new large-load rate class for data centers to protect residents from added costs; Appalachian Power and Rappahannock Electric Cooperative have also submitted similar requests as new legislation calls for an evaluation of rate structures & customer protections.
