- ➤ A Richmond nonprofit is hosting Wear RVA's 'Rocking the Runway for a Cause' at Dover Hall in Goochland County on May 8 to let high school girls show their fashion and body confidence while raising funds for mental and behavioral health services — proceeds support the Virginia Treatment Center for Children at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU — and volunteers are still needed as tickets are limited. 6 News

- ➤ Jagpal Jag Chahal from Vancouver, Canada will earn his master’s degree in psychiatric mental health nursing from VCU School of Nursing this spring as he follows his brother’s footsteps. He gained clinical experience at VCU Health and Richmond Behavioral Health Authority and now works at Mechanicsville-based Old Towne Counseling Services — he provides collaborative care to patients with mental health challenges. - ➤ Niagara Cares partnered with the Arbor Day Foundation — supported by the James River Association — to plant over 25 native trees at the East End Library at 1200 North 25th Street on April 25th to lower urban heat and improve stormwater management in nearby neighborhoods. RVAHub
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Richmond Mayor Danny Avula turned off most procurement cards today after investigations revealed weaknesses in the p-card program. The reset will cut available cards from 320 to about 60 and limit purchases to essential services during a period of 60 to 90 days—while the Department of Procurement Services works to redesign and relaunch the program. 6 News
- ➤ VCU Board of Visitors will hold in-person committee meetings on May 8 at VCU Medical Center Critical Care Hospital, 1213 E. Clay St., Lambert Boardroom starting at 8 a.m. in open and closed sessions with several committees, and a full board meeting will be held on May 9 at 8 a.m. with a one-hour public comment period for feedback on proposed tuition & fees and the university’s budget. - ➤ John Reid, the GOP nominee for lieutenant governor, accused Matt Moran from the Spirit of Virginia PAC of extortion and his lawyers sent a cease and desist letter Monday.
