- ➤ A new farmers market debuts this Saturday at Legend Brewing in Manchester, operating weekly from 8 a.m. until noon from May 3 until October 25. The market aims to improve food access in a food desert area and will feature about 20 vendors + host weekly donation-based yoga and a kids club for local families. RVAHub
- ➤ A GRTC bus driver spotted an 11-year-old girl who got on the wrong bus in the Fulton area Tuesday night at around 10:15 p.m., prompting Richmond Police to send an alert. The driver, Curtis Page, met her near Moss Side Avenue—where the bus stops—to help return her safely to her relieved family. 12 On Your Side

- ➤ A new report by the National Education Association showed Virginia teachers earned an average of $66,327 last year—$3,000 more than the previous year—yet remain $5,703 below the national average as the state dropped to 26th place. Gov. Glenn Youngkin will soon decide on a budget proposal that adds $166 million for public education and may provide bonuses for teachers while lifting a cap on non-instructional staff funding. - ➤ Former Richmond mayor Levar Stoney, now running for lieutenant governor, talked with Catie Beck about his tough childhood, his work leading the city during the COVID-19 crisis and protests, and his plan to back Virginia workers. He said his grandmother shaped his early life and he urged that backup systems be tested after a high-profile case did not hold up—highlighting a need for better planning. 6 News
- ➤ City officials in Richmond announced they will reduce active p-cards from 320 to 60 starting May 9 as part of a 60 to 90 day review period that limits spending to essential services only. Mayor Danny Avula and DPS Director Rene Almaraz said new oversight measures and AI-supported audits will help rebuild the program. RVAHub
- ➤ Early voting for Virginia’s primaries begins today in Richmond, Chesterfield, Henrico and Hanover—voters must bring ID and verify registration. - ➤ At Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, an MRSA outbreak in the NICU infected 94 babies over more than three years due to poor infection control practices—inspectors noted failures in hand hygiene and proper room protocols during a January survey.
