  • A man died in northside Richmond when officers found him on the 3900 block of Old Brook Road off Chamberlayne Avenue Friday night, and the Medical Examiner will determine his cause of death.  12 On Your Side
  • A 3-year-old boy was shot to death at the Winchester Green Apartments in Chesterfield on May 1 when he was handling a firearm—Jeffrey R. Greene, a 37-year-old man who lives at the residence, was charged with felony child neglect and allowing a child access to a firearm.  FOX Richmond

CULTURE NEWS

  • Richmond’s Byrd Park hosts Arts in the Park today and on May 4, where nearly 400 artists show paintings and watercolors in a celebration that has united the community for 54 years. Visitors can ride a free shuttle from City Stadium + use free parking to enjoy the event against the historic Carillon Tower backdrop.  6 News
  • Friday Cheers turned 40 on May 2 when Venture Richmond hosted a 6 p.m. concert featuring Chaparelle with Jack Wharff and the Tobacco Flats on Brown’s Island—marking a longstanding tradition known for launching breakthrough bands.  6 News

  • VCU junior Ciara Norfleet launched a community book drive for Carver Elementary by placing donation bins at local businesses. The drive will run through May 9 — it will let students pick free books at a book fair setup.  6 News

  • The Virginia War Memorial will honor nearly 12,000 fallen service members on Memorial Day by reading names aloud at the Shrine of Memory+ the event will last at least 12 hours+ public members are invited to join in 50-name reading groups.  6 News
