- ➤ Despite forecast rain and the James River expected to hit flood stage today, Dominion Energy Riverrock festival organizers said they are closely monitoring conditions to ensure safety for the planned races from May 16 to May 18—calls for adjustments will be made if necessary. Roughly 100,000 people are expected to enjoy the outdoor events along Richmond’s riverfront as the festival proceeds rain or shine. FOX Richmond

- ➤ Amazon broke ground today on a new robotics fulfillment center in Goochland County that will occupy 3.1 million square feet on a 107-acre parcel in the Rockville Opportunity Corridor and create more than 1,000 jobs—state and regional funds also supported nearby road upgrades to ease traffic. - ➤ After 10 months of talks, the Hanover school board approved a plan to move about 1,200 students among elementary, middle and high schools to ease crowding—changes will take effect at the start of the 2026-27 school year. The plan includes waivers that let some students remain at their current school. Richmond Times-Dispatch
- ➤ Emmy Truong, a transfer student majoring in information systems at VCU, won the first Student Employee of the Year award among more than 50 nominees during the Student Leadership Awards ceremony on April 17. She works as a web developer intern in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation (OVPRI) and will join full-time over the summer (her achievement highlights her growing skills on the job and in class). - ➤ Medical students from the Student Family Medicine Association offer free health checks at St Paul's Episcopal Church in downtown Richmond during Emmaus Lunch Ministry—where about 100 local residents have their blood pressure and blood sugar checked.
