- ➤ Carol Marie Chantrell and her husband have fostered 13 children aged 7 to 17 in Henrico and say foster care has changed their lives — during Foster Care Awareness Month, they urge everyone to help children who might age out of care without a loving home. Chantrell calls for volunteers, donations, and advocacy to support these children and make a lasting difference. 6 News
- ➤ Richmond Navy Week runs from May 12 to 18 and brings sailors to the area to engage in community service and education—today's events include a family-friendly concert at Dogwood Dell and a baseball game where Rear Admiral Todd Whalen is set to throw the first pitch. Additional activities highlight naval careers and veteran connections throughout the week. 6 News
- ➤ Richmond’s Dominion Energy Riverrock will run from May 17 to 19 on Brown’s Island, turning the space into a playground with trail runs, climbing walls, kayak races and concerts—drawing over 100,000 fans each year. The free festival will open May 17 at 5 p.m. with events such as the Subaru Ultimate Air Dogs and continues throughout the weekend with races and live music while offering online registration for participants. - ➤ The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts has temporarily closed the Lewis Collection galleries—art from these collections will travel internationally starting with the Auckland Art Gallery—to prepare for its largest expansion. Groundbreaking will begin late 2025 and the renovation project is expected to finish by late 2028 while the museum stays open daily. RVAHub

- ➤ Richmond City Council named RJ Warren as its new chief of staff after appointing him by resolution on May 12. He will begin his role on June 2—bringing nearly 18 years of public service experience from roles including deputy city clerk and positions with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. - ➤ Former city employee Reginald Thomas spent nearly $840,000 at RPM Supply Co. registered to his home between 2017 and 2024 using city credit cards and purchase orders. City officials have launched investigations and cut almost 80% of active cards—allowing only critical service purchases. Richmond Times-Dispatch
