ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ An adult and a child were seriously injured in a house fire on Monday evening at the 21200 block of Genito Road in Chesterfield County—firefighters took more than two hours to bring the blaze under control while the cause remains under investigation. 6 News

- ➤ Christie Ellis is retiring as principal after 31 years at Manchester High School in Chesterfield County+ she spent her career at the school she attended, starting as a substitute teacher after earning her degree from Duke University and later inspiring many students as leader. 6 News
- ➤ VCU has cut nearly a quarter of reviewed positions and updated its admissions process in response to new federal DEI directives—mandated rollbacks of affirmative action standards. The university also reviewed its scholarship and hiring practices and hired a consultant to examine its programs and policies further. 6 News
- ➤ VCU doctoral student Diane Diaz is researching how BIPOC military service women cope with grief-pain and spirituality after personal losses and a lack of military support—she lost her son and cousin—to help shape new mental health care and policy. - ➤ Central Virginia will hold several Memorial Day events to honor fallen heroes, including ceremonies in Richmond, Amelia, Dublin, and Suffolk and a flag placement event in Williamsburg on May 22. - ➤ Henrico County officials met on May 15 to plan zoning changes that would keep new data centers within a specific zone and require board review for projects outside that area. The county, which hosts about 40 data centers, will vote on amendments on June 10 as residents and supervisors express concern over impacts on nearby homes and the environment. VPM
