  • Nonprofit GroundworkRVA's Hillside Mini Farm in Southside Richmond has served as a community hub for fresh produce and youth job training but lost its roughly $500,000 USDA grant in April—forcing rapid cuts to youth stipends and planned projects. The organization now seeks donations and volunteers to maintain the farm's services in an area with limited fresh food access—underscoring the challenges of a local food desert.  VPM

CRIME NEWS

  • A driver was shot and killed on I-64 when a vehicle carrying three occupants was traveling along the interstate—police say no suspects have been identified in the investigation.  12 On Your Side

  • Kaye Savage— the first Black graduate of George Wythe High School— recalled her struggles with segregation and her quick three-year graduation at the 65th ceremony on Friday. She stressed that preserving the school’s history is important as plans for a new building continue.  6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The city of Richmond said repair work on a water main break at 7th and Canal Streets took longer than expected due to issues with the water line, and crews resumed work Monday night while residents in Richmond and Henrico still received normal water pressure—county officials maintained alternative water distribution sites during the repairs.  FOX Richmond
  • Richmond city councilmembers expressed frustration Monday over repeated water quality issues that led to boil water advisories after high turbidity in the James River clogged sediment filters at the treatment plant. The Department of Public Utilities presented a 10-year improvement plan—several projects already underway—to boost water quality and reliability, while state health officials flagged unprecedented regulatory violations.  6 News
  • Richmond City Council appointed Foster Curtiss as interim inspector general during its Monday night meeting. He joined the inspector general office as investigations manager earlier this year and his appointment comes after the former inspector general was fired on May 26 — as noted by Councilwoman Reva Trammell.  12 On Your Side

  • Richmond’s Health Brigade lost $1.8 million in state and federal funding over the past year, which has strained the clinic’s ability to cover payroll and essential services.
