- ➤ Saint Paul’s Baptist Church in eastern Henrico County plans to transform 321 acres into City of Possibility, a mixed-use development with over 1,000 homes, businesses, urban farms and trails. Pastor Dr. Lance Watson said the project will need Henrico County to rezone the property and be reviewed by the Planning Commission in August. 6 News

- ➤ Slack Tide Fish Co. — owned by brothers Tucker and Thomas Brown with executive chef Caleb Shriver — is opening today at 1320 Summit Ave in Scott’s Addition and will serve a raw bar alongside coastal and global dishes. The restaurant will offer dinner Tuesday through Saturday and happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. and has already attracted over 1,000 reservations. Richmond Magazine

- ➤ Richmond Police are seeking Adwin Zuri (38 from Charles City) in connection with the homicide of Terrence Smith (43), who was found fatally shot inside an apartment on the ground floor in the 1300 block of Coalter Street. 6 News

- ➤ Mayo Island in Richmond has been used for boating clubs, baseball games, music festivals, and even as a hideout for murder suspects—its rich history shows many sides of the city’s past. The island will soon become a public park and part of the city’s James River Park System—work will begin in 2026 with the demolition and replacement of its over-100-year-old bridge. - ➤ Legislators heard Wednesday that moving the juvenile justice system from public safety to health and human resources could hinder access to rehabilitative services for youth. The JLARC report noted that DJJ already offers therapy, mentoring, and other services (the regional service coordinator model boosted service providers by 50% since 2017) which might be less effective if transferred. - ➤ City leaders met at City Hall yesterday to review long-term plans for upgrading the aging water treatment plant after several water service disruptions. Officials said the plan, expected to finish by 2034, may include regional collaboration after residents complained of high bills and payment issues—highlighting the need for reliable water. - ➤ Health Brigade, a free clinic on Thompson Street in Richmond, lost $1.8 million in state and federal funds last year and cut some key programs—workers, volunteers and patients met at a town hall to seek answers.
