  • Fans at the Richmond Flying Squirrels game on Saturday got a unique treat as Chesapeake Bank celebrated its 125th anniversary by serving a 300-pound crab cake at The Diamond — a special event that brought the taste of Chesapeake to the local community.  6 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Police investigated a shooting at a WAWA gas station on Pike View Drive in Chesterfield early Saturday morning at around 2 a.m.—one victim with multiple gunshot wounds is not in life-threatening condition and authorities asked anyone present at the scene to come forward with information.  12 On Your Side
  • Chesterfield County Police investigated a shooting in the Wawa parking lot at 150 Pike View Drive early Sunday morning when a large group gathered and an altercation led to one person suffering non-life-threatening injuries while police are asking anyone with information to come forward.  Richmond Times-Dispatch

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Richmond chef Leah Branch at The Roosevelt in Church Hill is celebrating Juneteenth by offering 250 pay-what-you-can shoebox lunches that sold out in late May—each lunch box comes with vegan and gluten-free items and proceeds support local museums such as the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia. She will also host Juneteenth dinners on June 20 and 21 with a fixed menu for $50.  Richmond Magazine

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Delores McQuinn, who has served since 2009, will face Henrico County School Board chair Alicia Atkins in the 81st House District primary on Tuesday + Atkins, the board’s first Black chair, is running on a platform of stronger schools, safer neighborhoods and cleaner air. McQuinn plans to build on her long record of supporting early education and local preservation + aiming to keep her community-focused work at the Capitol.  VPM
  • Political experts warned that Saturday's attack in Minnesota—which killed former House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband and injured Senator John Hoffman and his wife—has raised security concerns for Virginia lawmakers. Government officials condemned the politically motivated shooting and may review Capitol Police protection levels (as threats to elected officials grow).  6 News
  • Public meetings are scheduled across Central Virginia this week as Richmond City Hall committees review housing, transit, and grant proposals while the School Board addresses a Head Start refund and employee issues. Charlottesville City Council will vote on new utility rates that will raise bills by about $10–$13 per month and Albemarle County supervisors will consider a gas easement change and plan for 2026.  VPM
