COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Southside Community Center in Richmond recently completed a $20 million renovation that added climbing nets—rock walls, swings, a boxing area, a second gym, and a walking track—to help families enjoy safe summer activities. The center now offers therapeutic programs, educational classes, and food services and will expand its facilities in other local centers soon.  12 On Your Side

CRIME NEWS

  • Two young adults were killed in a shooting at Creekpointe Apartments in Midlothian just before midnight Friday—Chesterfield County Police said residents are not in danger and are not seeking suspects.  6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Richmond's 4th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a federal law that bans gun shops from selling handguns to those under 21—this ruling followed a lawsuit by Palmyra resident John Corey Fraser and sets the stage for a potential Supreme Court review due to a split with the Fifth Circuit.  Richmond Times-Dispatch
  • Richmond Mayor Danny Avula formed a regional group with officials from Hanover, Henrico and Chesterfield counties to address water problems after a boil water advisory in late May, high fluoride in April and a prolonged outage in January. The group will meet in July to inspect the water infrastructure and plan fixes — recommendations are expected by spring — to build a more resilient system.  6 News
