- ➤ Chesterfield Commonwealth's Attorney Erin Barr said she is deeply concerned over ICE detentions at the courthouse, where more than a dozen individuals have been detained since Friday while protesters gathered outside. She clarified her office is not involved with the operations—county Sheriff Karl Leonard said his staff received little notice about the arrests. 6 News
- ➤ Riding the bus in Richmond stays free until July 2026 after GRTC secured $6.8 million in last-minute funds to extend its Zero Fare program—and the transit agency will launch a new ad campaign and donation drive to keep the service running long term. Richmond Magazine
- ➤ GRTC will roll out new 60-foot articulated buses on July 8 during its TAP into Transit Day event at Main Street Station to ease overcrowding on busy routes. The buses hold 54 seats and allow up to 68 standing riders — a design that will speed up boarding and support the Zero Fare program. Richmond Free Press
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Virginia Department of Health reported that nearly 1,200 Virginians visited emergency rooms for heat-related illnesses since May, with 246 on June 24 showing symptoms like exhaustion and heat stroke.
