ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Richmond firefighters rescued a couple and their two dogs when floodwaters forced them onto the roof of their truck near Magnolia and Rady Street on Sunday evening — two boats safely carried them to shore with no injuries reported.  6 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Chesterfield County police are investigating a stabbing on Saturday at about 11:30 p.m. in the 2500 block of Marina Drive—one victim sustained life-threatening injuries.  Richmond Times-Dispatch

CULTURE NEWS

  • Neel Williams of The Martin Agency created the Now Upon a Time series to modernize classic fairy tales with stronger, braver princesses. The latest book—Princess & the Pea-tition—updates a well-known tale with a message on democracy and partners with voter registration groups to encourage civic involvement.  Richmond Magazine

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Retired wildlife photographer Bill Draper donated hundreds of images of Richmond wildlife to local parks to share his love for nature, using his own camera to capture scenes from the James River, Maymont, and Hollywood Cemetery—his photo book sold out and all funds were given back to improve the parks. Draper hopes his work will raise awareness and support for the natural beauty in our area.  Richmond Times-Dispatch

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Department of Wildlife Resources will increase enforcement during the July 4 weekend to catch impaired boaters on high-risk spots like sandbars and sand pits on the James River as part of Operation Dry Water — Lt. Joshua Thomas urged boaters to use a designated operator and proper life jackets to stay safe.  12 On Your Side

HEALTH NEWS

  • State health officials said that central Virginia hospitals recorded 146 heat-related emergency visits from last Monday to Wednesday as high temperatures and humidity led to a record heat wave with heat indices above 100. Richmond experienced a rise in calls for heatstroke and exhaustion, and forecasters expect high heat to continue through early this week—prompting calls for increased cooling measures.  Richmond Times-Dispatch
  • Organizations gathered Sunday at Fort Clifton Park in Colonial Heights to fight the stigma of drug addiction and offer support to affected families. Jill Cichowicz organized the event after losing her twin brother to fentanyl in 2017—she now holds resource fairs across Virginia to help people learn the warning signs of addiction.  6 News
