CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Susan Massey, 82, has taught ballet for over 60 years and shared her love of dance with adult students at Richmond Ballet—she calls it fluid poetry. Her classes let community members learn ballet for exercise and a new hobby. 6 News
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ VCU School of Dentistry is working with design firm Kahler Slater — Hanbury to plan a five-story, 312,000-square-foot building that will let the school serve more patients and improve dental education. The schematic design will support a request for construction funds so that building will begin in May 2027 and finish in late 2029. Virginia Commonwealth University
- ➤ Richmond leaders have announced the return of the RVA East End Festival, a free event that will take place Saturday, Sept. 27 at Chimborazo Park. The festival will feature a string orchestra from the Richmond Symphony + performances by Richmond Public Schools students to support arts programs at local schools. 6 News
- ➤ Virginia Commonwealth University received a $2.3 million grant from the State Council for Higher Education of Virginia to help Pell-eligible freshmen with a tuition gap as 4,500 students begin classes this fall & nearly 40% of the class qualify for Pell support. 6 News
