CRIME NEWS

  • A Henrico man, 22-year-old Jordan Gayle, was arrested in Shockoe Bottom on June 28 after a fight in May left a Department of Public Works worker with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound—he faces four felony charges including malicious wounding, use of a firearm in a felony, malicious shooting at an occupied vehicle, and destruction of property.  12 On Your Side

  • VCUarts graduate Häsler Gómez won the Dedalus MFA Fellowship in painting and sculpture, which provides a $15,000 stipend to support his art career+ he will use the fellowship as an artist in residence at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art to further his creative work that began at VCU.  Virginia Commonwealth University

  • Sheila White resigned as Director of City Hall’s Department of Finance on Thursday evening—a city spokesperson told The Times-Dispatch.  Richmond Times-Dispatch
  • Richmond officials report that upgrades to the water system and emergency response plans are underway following water outages earlier this year—city leaders say the water department completed 82% of 230 required actions and submitted 52 updated procedures to meet a 120-day deadline.  Richmond Free Press

  • Developer Greenberg Gibbons got plans approved to turn the former Genworth campus at 6604-6630 W. Broad St. into a mixed-use neighborhood with more than 1,000 apartments, townhomes, office space, retail options and hotel rooms.
