  • Staff writer Payton Kifus praises Around the Table for its comforting southern soul food and warm service, where cousins Ammie Derricot and Kelly Jackson have run the restaurant at 155 Junction Dr. since April 1.   • On Jul. 19, Richmond residents gathered at a local site to honor Maggie Walker (a pioneer in banking and civil rights) during a ceremony that highlighted her lasting impact on the community.  12 On Your Side
  • Dozens of residents gathered outside Calhoun Community Center in Gilpin Court for an ice cream social hosted by the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority & Richmond City Police to build trust and offer community resources. ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in the 4700 block of Ironbridge Road near Chippenham Parkway after an SUV lost control and struck a tree at about 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, and the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.  Richmond Times-Dispatch

  • VCU leadership expert Christopher S. Reina said workplace stress harms employee health and costs billions, and he urged leaders to change systems that ignore root causes (instead of relying on quick fixes like yoga classes).   • Virginia SUN Bucks is offering $120 per child to eligible families to help pay for groceries during the summer months. Families on SNAP, TANF or whose children receive free or reduced-cost lunch were automatically enrolled with funds credited on July 18—applications close on August 30.  6 News
  • Richmond residents feel both hope and doubt as new Chief Administrative Officer Odie Donald II began his role 13 days ago and started a listening tour at parks and barber shops to learn about city issues. He will soon meet with council members and city staff—Mayor Danny Avula said he is confident that needed changes will come soon.  6 News
  • Richmond Mayor Danny Avula announced two new work groups to improve the water system and rebuild public trust after recent crises. One group will focus on internal planning and long-term financial strategy while the other coordinates with Chesterfield, Hanover and Henrico counties—demonstrated today when the city provided extra water during planned maintenance.  Virginia Mercury

  • A mother said her premature baby contracted MRSA during a three-year NICU outbreak at Henrico Doctors' Hospital that infected 94 babies. Inspectors found the hospital did not follow proper infection controls—raising concerns about why stricter actions were not taken.  6 News
