- ➤ Workers at Norfolk Botanical Garden voted to form a union with nearly two-thirds in favor and will join the IAM union after the National Labor Relations Board certifies the vote later this month. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Local research shows that low-income and Black Richmond residents faced more heat-related emergencies, with nearly 62% of 492 cases involving Black residents even though they make up only about 40% of the population. The study also finds that cooling shelters are too far apart—leaving many residents with few options during high heat. Richmond Times-Dispatch
- ➤ On July 25, three lifeguards at Pocahontas State Park experienced heat-related emergencies when the heat index hit 105 degrees—two were hospitalized after one fell from a stand and another had a medical incident in the parking lot. 6 News
