CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities are searching for Steven Kendall Wright (a 5'11", 220-pound Black man with short black hair, brown eyes, and seen in red or green shorts with no shirt) who disappeared while swimming at Gloucester Point Beach on Sunday and resumed search efforts Monday.  6 News
  • A search is underway for Steven Kendall Wright, a 50-year-old Richmond man last seen entering the York River at about 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 27 — teams from several law enforcement agencies are working to locate him and ask anyone with information to call the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office.  12 On Your Side

  • On Monday, August 4, the Science Museum will celebrate 804 Day by offering a $10 general admission that gives guests access to the Towers of Tomorrow with LEGO® Bricks touring exhibit, labs, makerspace and demos. The museum, open from 9:30 a.m.—5 p.m., sells tickets online and at Guest Services while extra fees apply for The Dome show and the Ultimate Dinosaurs tour.  RVAHub

  • At a retreat lasting two days last week, the Capital Region Airport Commission heard chief growth officer Martin Rubinstein propose plans for a direct flight route to Europe that will launch in the future. The airport also will add a new lounge, duty free store and other facilities — details are still in planning.  6 News
  • The City of Richmond announced Tanikia Jackson as the new Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for Finance and Administration and she will begin on August 11th. Jackson brings over twenty years of city finance and operations experience—including roles in Atlanta and Chattanooga—and will oversee key areas such as budget, procurement, and human resources.  RVAHub
  • Yesterday, Richmond City Council passed a resolution accusing the Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority of breaking state law by signing a contract without proper approval for redeveloping Gilpin Court—the council directed the city attorney to notify RRHA and verify if clearance was received. Residents and council members expressed urgent concern during the public comment period as the dispute over redevelopment plans unfolded.  Richmond Times-Dispatch
  • Gov. Glenn Youngkin has told Richmond that state funds will be withheld if the city does not pay $5.8 million to Marvin Grimm—a man who spent nearly 50 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted when vital evidence was hidden.
