- ➤ Richmond teens learned life-saving 'Stop the Bleed' skills through a pilot program at the Boys and Girls Clubs of Metro Richmond — a training aimed at high gun violence neighborhoods — to help them respond quickly to emergencies. VCU Medical Center and local violence intervention partners led these sessions and plan to train 300 teens in total. 6 News
- ➤ Richmond Public Library will hold its Summer Reading Finale on Saturday, August 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Pine Camp Park — featuring a video game truck, crafts, music, stories and limited free Ruby Scoops ice cream for early arrivals. - ➤ Richmond-based Terravive, founded in 2015 by Julianna Keeling, makes more than 100 biodegradable food service products and is working on plant-based bags and film for packaging and pallet wrapping. The woman-, minority- and veteran-owned business uses domestic manufacturing (employing upcycled sugarcane and corn) to offer sustainable products that break down in a few weeks and are sold in the U.S. and on four continents. - ➤ The city of Richmond is now posting an online speed data dashboard that shows which roads see the fastest drivers—data from anonymous cell phones and GPS systems will help officials decide where to install cameras and add safety measures. 12 On Your Side
- ➤ Amtrak Virginia set its highest ridership record in SFY2025 with 1,451,276 riders—a 4.8% increase from last year—and June saw 126,284 passengers, the best monthly performance since the service started in 2009. The agency is moving forward with construction projects that will add more train trips and improve rail connections across the state by 2030. 12 On Your Side

- ➤ Richmond has launched new vending machines that offer free harm reduction products like naloxone and fentanyl test strips to help address the city’s rising opioid overdose deaths. The machines are placed at Department of Social Services sites with a third machine set to be installed at the East End Library today—using settlement funds to support expansion based on community input. - ➤ Therapy dogs from the Chippenham Johnston-Willis Canine Therapy program have brought comfort to patients at Johnston Willis Hospital, including new mom Chelsea Vande Pol who said the visits lightened her challenging stay. Volunteers led by Daniel Ronquillo will continue visiting patients Monday through Friday—helping to lift spirits across the hospital. 6 News

- ➤ Investment firms Foxfield and Park Row Equity Partners bought the 402-unit Metropolis at Innsbrook apartments in Henrico County for $98 million last week—county records show the property is 96% occupied with rents starting at about $1,300 per month.
