- ➤ Virginia Capital Trail Foundation will celebrate the trail’s 10th anniversary on October 3 at Billsburg Brewery in Williamsburg and on October 4 at Triple Crossing Beer in Richmond (with BBQ dinner in Williamsburg and wood-fired pizza in Richmond along with two free beverages, a commemorative pint glass, and guest remarks on the trail’s impact). The 51.7-mile trail, which connects communities from James City County to Richmond and sees over a million visits a year, remains an important route for active transportation and recreation. 12 On Your Side
- ➤ Biltmore Baptist Church provided over 250 students with backpacks filled with school supplies and clothing on Saturday in Glen Allen. Lt. gubernatorial candidate John Reid helped distribute the supplies as part of the church's 8th annual giveaway. 6 News

- ➤ On Sunday just after 2 a.m., a woman was hit and run and killed on the 7100 block of Hull Street Road when a car traveling west struck her and fled the scene — police continue to investigate the case. 12 On Your Side

- ➤ Thousands of people gathered on Sunday in Carytown for the 43rd Watermelon Festival—organizers said it is one of the largest one-day festivals in Virginia. Vendors offered watermelon in many creative ways as live music and performances filled the street. 12 On Your Side
- ➤ A new show of modern quilts is on view at Main Street Station until Aug. 31, presented by the Central Virginia Modern Quilt Guild—this exhibit features creative quilt designs and will include a workshop on English Paper Piecing on Aug. 13 at 4 p.m., with more community sewing events later in the month. - ➤ Public meetings are scheduled in Central Virginia this week. The Richmond School Board Vacant Property Committee will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall to review facility concerns as students return next week, and Henrico County Supervisors will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the County Government Center to vote on bonds up to $90 million — which includes settlements to fund opioid recovery efforts — and plan future county projects.
