- ➤ Richmond Animal Care and Control is waiving its adoption fees from today through Sept. 13 (to help quiet homes with empty nests) and offers both adoption and fostering options (giving residents a chance to bring a new pet home). 12 On Your Side
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ DuPont is selling its Kevlar fiber and Nomex fabric business along with much of the Spruance plant to Arclin for about $1.8 billion. The deal will close in the first quarter and 400 Tyvek workers will stay with DuPont + about 1,900 plant workers will join Arclin. Richmond Times-Dispatch

- ➤ A Virginia couple was sentenced to 60 years for killing Julian McClenny—who was shot outside Whole Foods in Short Pump while he tried to protect his girlfriend during a birthday walk in September—after being charged with first-degree murder and other crimes. 6 News
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Musician George Dennehy, born without arms and raised in Henrico County, performed the national anthem at Camden Yards during a Baltimore Orioles game in June—he used his feet to play the guitar while inspiring the crowd with his determination. 6 News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ A new Virginia law went into effect on July 1 that makes assaulting sports officials a Class 1 misdemeanor — offenders can face up to one year in jail, a $2,500 fine, and at least a six-month ban from league games. 6 News
- ➤ Chesterfield Board of Supervisors approved the Northern Route 10 Corridor Plan to guide future development along a 3.5-mile stretch of Iron Bridge Road—starting a mile south of Chippenham Parkway and ending at Route 288. 6 News
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Federal officials terminated Medicare and Medicaid funding at Princess Anne Health and Rehabilitation Center in Virginia Beach for failing to meet health and safety standards after repeated reports of neglect and resident injuries. The facility must transfer all current residents within 30 days—an action highlighting serious oversight issues in related nursing homes in the Richmond region. 6 News
