CRIME NEWS

  • Virginia State Police are searching for Jason Allen Glidewell II, 19, wanted for second-degree murder and a firearm felony after a deadly shooting on I-85 in Mecklenburg County on Aug. 28th — they recovered his silver 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche with damage to the driver’s door after it left the road where 20-year-old Hunter A. Bates died and a passenger was hospitalized.  FOX Richmond
  • Henrico Police are searching for 21-year-old Anderson who went on a date with an unknown man and has not been seen since Sunday—authorities are following up on her disappearance.  12 On Your Side

  • Richmond mourns Vicky Hester, the beloved founder of Babes of Carytown, who died Tuesday at age 71 after a long battle with cancer—tributes continue to pour in as locals honor her legacy with food donations and plans for a celebration of life at the bar. Community members express their gratitude for her role in creating a safe, inclusive space that enriched local life.  6 News
  • Richmond artist Ian Hess is launching a month-long art project called "Hello My Name Is" at Gallery5 during the First Friday art walk—showcasing sticker art from over 270 artists worldwide. The project builds on Hess’s earlier work with Little Giant Society and Supply RVA while putting sticker culture in the spotlight.  6 News

  • VCU and Reynolds Community College will start their new dual-admission program NEXT Step VCU on Sept 8 at the Navy Hill Community Room at the Reynolds downtown campus. The program gives eligible community college students cost-savings, credit guarantees and advising help as they work toward a VCU bachelor's degree.  Virginia Commonwealth University

  • On Wednesday night, Virginia Lottery officials reported that the Powerball jackpot soared to $1.4 billion and ticket sales in the state reached $3.7 million — officials estimated peak sales of 3,700 tickets per minute during early evening.  12 On Your Side

HEALTH NEWS

  • Nearly 200 nursing homes in Virginia are suing the state for not raising Medicaid funding for direct care as lawmakers required because they say the extra money is needed to help pay staff. The Virginia Health Care Association says 181 facilities will file a petition with the Supreme Court this week while Governor Youngkin's team stands by its past funding decisions — leaving the case to be decided in court.  6 News

  • Richmond’s Office of the Assessor has mailed proposed 2026 reassessment notices to property owners early this month—giving them until September 30 to file an appeal if they disagree with the new values. Final reviews will be completed by December 31 and new values will take effect on January 1.  RVAHub
