  • Karl and Kim Houseknecht from Fluvanna County have trained seven guide dogs since 2016, teaching them basic commands and guiding skills to help people with vision loss while working with New York-based Guiding Eyes for the Blind+ the nonprofit is now seeking local volunteers during National Guide Dog Month to support its puppy raising program.  6 News
  • The Richmond Public Library is asking Richmonders to share personal stories, photos, and artifacts to build a digital archive of Confederate monument removals—collection events will be held at several branches in September and October to capture a fuller record of the community’s experience. The project invites contributions that add everyday voices to official records for a more complete historical narrative.  6 News

  • A study by the Community Climate Collaborative found that one in five Richmond households spends at least 10% of their income on energy bills, with the hardest hit in mostly Black neighborhoods in the East End, Southside and eastern Northside—an effect linked to historic redlining practices.   • Virginia officials are racing to lower the SNAP error rate from 11.5% to 6% by October 2027—aiming to avoid a $270M annual penalty. The state will use new training and technology improvements to help local workers check applications more carefully.  6 News
