  • The 3rd Annual Florence Neal Cooper Smith 5K Walk for Sickle Cell was held Saturday at Dorey Park in Henrico to raise funds and awareness for research on a disease that affects many African Americans. The event honored Florence Neal Cooper Smith and funded a research professorship—supporting efforts to find a cure.  6 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Yesterday the second annual Richmond International Dance Festival was held at Deep Run Park to celebrate the many cultures in our city. The event brought dance groups and food vendors together — organizers said it showed Richmond's diverse traditions — and helped build strong community ties.  6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mary Maggie Cleary, a conservative lawyer who said she was falsely linked to the Jan 6 Capitol event, was named acting U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia—she replaces Erik Siebert—amid political pressure during a long-running mortgage fraud probe that has not yet resulted in charges.  6 News

  • The BSH Knights volleyball team beat Fuqua Falcons and Walsingham Academy Trojans this week—improving their season record to 5-3.  Richmond Times-Dispatch
  • Hanover's Hawks won a close 9—7 game using strong defense while Mechanicsville's Mustangs shut out John Marshall 61—0 and Atlee Raiders beat Tucker 42—7 this week as local teams prepare for upcoming rivalry games.  Richmond Times-Dispatch
