- ➤ First responders are investigating a suspicious situation at Edward E. Willey Bridge on Chippenham Parkway as only one lane on each side is open as of 5 p.m.—motorists are advised to use alternative routes such as VA-288 or the Huguenot Memorial Bridge until the issue is resolved. 6 News

- ➤ Artist Tony Rose and musician Ali 'Deau Eyes' Thibodeau transformed their Stratford Hills home into a creative hub that now houses a music studio in the former sunroom and a backyard mini ramp that serves as the intimate venue Flowerama. The couple, who celebrated their Palm Springs-inspired wedding on the ramp last August, now hosts shows and band rehearsals—blending art, music, and eclectic design. Richmond Magazine
- ➤ Richmond Public Library Special Collections is asking residents to share photos, videos, signs and oral accounts from the removal of Confederate monuments between 2020 and 2022 to build a fuller record of the city's history. The library will hold events at Main Library on October 4th from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Hull Street on October 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., West End on October 23rd from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Ginter Park on October 26th from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Belmont on October 29th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. — all items will join the Monuments Collection available online and at branch libraries. 12 On Your Side
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Richmond will install red light cameras at 10 intersections as part of its Vision Zero plan after more red-light violations and serious crashes. The first cameras will go up at 25th Street and East Main Street in Shockoe Bottom by the end of the month with testing and a 30-day warning period to the public. 12 On Your Side
- ➤ Virginia voters cast over 32,000 ballots on Friday, which is more than double the turnout from 2021. The early voting surge set the stage as candidates Earl-Sears — Spanberger held rallies ahead of the state elections. 6 News
- ➤ City officials today approved a new design for the $38M Arthur Ashe bridge replacement after critics found the original plan with pylons and a long metal truss too complex — the simplified design addresses key concerns for Richmond. Richmond Times-Dispatch
- ➤ Former RPS chief talent officer Maggie Clemmons—accused of defamation—filed a $6.35M lawsuit against the Richmond School Board and Superintendent Jason Kamras, saying employees started a smear campaign during a February School Board meeting where they accused her of discrimination, harassment and misconduct. The suit claims RPS allowed the public defamation that led to her removal without due process. Richmond Free Press
- ➤ VCU Police has placed more than 400 yellow emergency phones with flashing lights around Richmond to offer a 24/7 direct line for help in crises. These phones are on VCU campuses and satellite centers—providing quick help when residents need it. 6 News
- ➤ Richmond voters will be able to vote early for the 2025 elections starting Friday through November 1, casting ballots for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and House of Delegates races. Early voting sites include the Office of Elections at 2134 W. Laburnum Ave. — City Hall at 900 E. Broad St. and the Hickory Hill Community Center at 3000 E. Belt Blvd., and registrants must sign up by October 24 to ensure their ballots are received on time. Richmond Free Press
- ➤ A new commission is looking into how some Virginia colleges bought hundreds of homes in mostly Black neighborhoods using eminent domain. The commission received $200,000 to study the harm done as families still feel the pain of losing their homes — the review includes reports from Old Dominion, Longwood, and Christopher Newport. VPM
- ➤ Nearly 300 early voters in three Richmond precincts received misprinted ballots on the first day of early voting—25 in Gilpin, 89 in the VCU area and 164 in downtown. The Richmond Office of Elections apologized and said affected voters can cast a provisional ballot or vote with a reprinted ballot while the office works to prevent future errors. 12 On Your Side
- ➤ Chesterfield Fire and EMS's Technical Rescue Team will train on the Pocahontas Parkway Bridge from Wednesday, Sept. 24 through Friday, Sept. 26 — rappelling from the I-95 South exit ramp closed to traffic to simulate rescuing a trapped driver. 6 News
- ➤ Starting Sunday, Sept 28 until Friday, Oct 3, VDOT will close lanes and ramps on Midlothian Turnpike and Chippenham Parkway from 9:30 p.m. — 5:30 a.m. for paving work; drivers must follow detours via Route 3430 — Route 686 for eastbound and Route 650 — Route 360 for westbound travel. 12 On Your Side
