- ➤ A new thrift store in Henrico’s West End was blessed by the bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Richmond and will open late next week. - ➤ A new 4.8-mile section of the Fall Line trail opened Wednesday in Hanover, connecting the Ashland Trolley Line Trail to Woodman Road in Henrico County — officials said the section marks the first regional segment of a 43-mile trail planned to stretch from Ashland to Petersburg by 2030. 12 On Your Side
- ➤ This weekend, several community events will take place in Richmond with Pridefest 2025 at Midtown Green, the RVA East End Festival at Chimborazo Park, and Safe Harbor’s Walk to End It supporting human trafficking survivors on Saturday, Sept. 27. - ➤ Fanzine author Brian Baynes opened Brian’s Books on June 14 in a former fish market at 2514 P St. in Church Hill, where he sells paperbacks, vintage magazines, and indie zines—he plans to host the Richmond Zine Fest on Oct. 10–11. Richmond Magazine
- ➤ Richmond artist Jordan Lette and his band The Folly will release their album Pushing Ground later this fall and have a new single out now. The group will perform at The Camel on Oct. 22 and at Bellwether Garage on Nov. 15 — they have grown through over a decade of diverse music-making. Richmond Magazine

- ➤ Forbes recognized Virginia Commonwealth University as one of the top 10 online colleges with a high acceptance rate based on factors such as affordability, graduation rate, and socioeconomic diversity — the school offers over 50 online programs and has more than doubled its online enrollment since 2022 with added digital support. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Dominion Energy’s plan to build a natural gas plant in Chesterfield County faced strong opposition at a State Corporation Commission hearing on Tuesday, with speakers warning it would worsen air quality and harm community health. Local residents and officials argued that renewable energy options can meet power demand at lower cost while avoiding added toxic emissions — concerns rooted in decades of local pollution. - ➤ VCU is expanding its green projects by planting native trees at the Amelia Street Urban Forest and creating a new spot called the Cumberland Wedge—efforts that offer local students hands-on lessons while helping to keep the James River clean. - ➤ Governor Youngkin said eligible taxpayers will get a tax rebate this fall of up to $200 if filing individually and up to $400 if filing jointly, provided they filed by Nov. 3 after incurring a 2024 tax liability.
