- ➤ The Forward Foundation is hosting its sixth annual Go Forward Together Ride on Oct. 4 at Final Gravity Brewing to raise money for single-parent households in Richmond—offering 30-mile and 50-mile rides starting at 8:30 a.m. to support classes and child care assistance for families in need. 12 On Your Side
- ➤ Jon Burkett, known as the Crime Insider, celebrates 25 years at CBS 6—he began as a photographer in September 2000 after serving in the Navy. He earned respect for his award-winning coverage and mentorship, making him a trusted voice in our news community. 6 News

- ➤ Peter Anspach of Goose said the band will perform two nights at Richmond’s Allianz Amphitheater at Riverfront on October 2 and 3—offering a full-sensory show with musical improvisation, storytelling, and deep audience connection. He recalled his memorable 2019 show at The Broadberry and noted that the new riverside venue will let the band settle in and engage with local fans. 6 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sheriff Darrell Hodges, serving Cumberland County, today proposed a new warning system after a Richmond County horse-drawn buggy crash injured seven people and sent two by helicopter; the system uses a blinking sign—activated by a device on the buggy—to alert drivers to slow down. State legislators and the Virginia Department of Transportation are studying the idea to help protect drivers and riders on shared roads. 6 News
- ➤ At a four-day hearing last week, the State Corporation Commission heard debates from Dominion Energy and environmental groups over a permit for a planned 944 megawatt natural gas plant in Chesterfield. The commission will decide in the coming months if the project can meet growing energy needs, keep costs in check, and protect the environment — a key moment for local energy regulation. VPM
- ➤ Richmond installed its first red-light camera at the East Main and 25th Streets intersection by the end of September and will install nine more at locations chosen from crash data to lower deadly incidents. The cameras will monitor intersections 24 hours a day—drivers will receive $50 fines after a 30-day grace period. 6 News

- ➤ Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU is now offering walk-in flu shots for children and family members (available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until November 6) at the Children’s Pavilion Sky Lobby to help build protection against the flu. 6 News
- ➤ The Cypress family from Richmond said their twin boys were diagnosed with sickle cell just after birth and have become advocates for change during Sickle Cell Awareness Month—pushing for better healthcare. The 16-year-old twins speak at community events and even on Capitol Hill —fighting the pain and hospital visits with strength. 6 News
- ➤ A study by pharmacists found that Virginia reportedly overspent billions on Medicaid prescription drugs from 2017 to 2023 with spending at about $2,600 per enrollee plus nearly four times the national average. The state contends the report is based on flawed data from quarterly submissions caused by coding errors. 6 News
- ➤ A new report by the Office of the State Inspector General found that Virginia's state-run behavioral health facilities made poor investigations of abuse and neglect claims—staff often lacked training and corrective actions were delayed. The Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services accepted all recommendations and will improve procedures by the end of 2027. 6 News
- ➤ Urban Baby Beginnings, a Richmond nonprofit, has expanded its care for mothers and babies by opening health hubs in Petersburg, Roanoke, Newport News and Norfolk and by helping lawmakers secure over $4 million to lower high death rates from the COVID-19 crisis—efforts that will continue to support families across Virginia.
