- ➤ The Richmond Renaissance Faire announced on Instagram that the 2026 event will take place April 18th and 19th at Dorey Park—its new home for a festival that reimagines history and celebrates local culture. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ VCU Libraries hosted a virtual panel on October 2 at 12:30 p.m. on Zoom to show police footage from Richmond’s civil rights era—panelists discussed more than 100 restored films from the 1960s and 1970s that captured local protests, rallies, and historic events. Richmond Free Press
- ➤ OystoberFest will return to Historic Ginter Park on Saturday, October 4 from noon to 6, offering oysters prepared raw, steamed, or fried, po’ boys, brats, and live music by Lazlo and other bands — the event, presented by The Cowart Mortgage Team, will benefit St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church outreach programs. - ➤ A new Emerson College Polling survey shows Abigail Spanberger leads Winsome Earle-Sears by 10 points in the governor's race as support from independents, males and younger voters grew since January — the survey conducted Sept. 28-29 indicates a significant shift in voter preference driven by economic concerns. - ➤ Virginia has filed a lawsuit against Zillow — and Redfin alleging that the companies agreed not to compete in connecting landlords to apartment-seekers. The case aims to protect rental consumers by ensuring a fair market for apartment searches. Richmond Times-Dispatch
- ➤ Since the government shutdown began on Oct. 1, military members and federal workers in Hampton Roads have not been paid and some may face furloughs or layoffs. Local experts warn that if the shutdown continues into November, families will cut spending and businesses like restaurants and stores may suffer—this could lead to missed payments on rent and mortgages. - ➤ The Richmond School Board paid $30,790 to its former director of internal audits Douglass Graeff as part of his separation agreement on May 13 when he left the job without explanation. The board has not commented on his departure and his position remains unfilled. Richmond Free Press

- ➤ Ronald McDonald House Charities of Richmond will move to a new 52,000—square‐foot facility in Historic Jackson Ward that will offer 50 hotel‐style beds with private bathrooms to triple the families served. The nonprofit plans to break ground in fall 2026 and expects completion by the end of 2027. 6 News
- ➤ VCU alum Richard E. Chipkin, Ph.D. returned to campus to speak about his work on ecopipam, a drug that eases Tourette syndrome symptoms with fewer side effects & that is moving toward FDA approval after successful trials. - ➤ Henrico Doctors' Hospital broke ground on a 12,000–square–foot, $24 million emergency room facility in Scott's Addition yesterday, marking the neighborhood's first ER—this freestanding facility will operate 24/7 and is expected to open mid–2026 to meet growing community needs. 6 News
- ➤ Ten-year-old Emma Horton from Dinwiddie celebrated a major milestone in her fight against brain cancer by marking one year cancer-free after finishing chemotherapy and having her port and feeding tube removed at Children's Hospital of Richmond. 6 News
