- ➤ Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church joined city leaders and Richmond Police Department to host Falling for the Culture, a Festival of Unity, Peace, and Hope on Sunday along Jackson Ward and Gilpin Court corridor. The event ran from noon to 4 p.m. and featured live music, vendors, free food, and youth activities — it aimed to build trust and offer a safe space for families. Richmond Free Press
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The 65th annual Armenian Food Festival began Friday, October 3 and continues today from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at St. James Armenian Church on Pepper and Patterson avenues—visitors can enjoy traditional Armenian dishes, live dance performances, and music by Hooshere and VA Roonks while proceeds support charitable causes. - ➤ A retired state trooper who lost his son in Iraq helped create a Wall of Honor exhibit at Woody Funeral Home on Parham Road to memorialize 301 Virginia service members killed in the War on Terror. Former Gov Bob McDonnell and staff participated in a ceremony on Friday afternoon that brought the memorial to life. 6 News
- ➤ Donovan Schaefer, a Virginia Humanities fellow, will lead a free virtual talk at noon on October 8th where he presents his research on the creation of Richmond's Confederate monuments—he will use Library of Virginia records to show how global art networks shaped public spaces; registration is required to attend. - ➤ Ashland Berry Farm has expanded Terror on the Farm into five haunted attractions including a hay ride, themed haunted evenings, and an escape room for younger visitors—this autumn event gives families a spooky experience—as it continues a tradition that began in 1978. 6 News
- ➤ Richmond's 65th annual Armenian Food Festival is underway today at St. James Armenian Church—featuring traditional dishes such as chicken kabobs, meat pies, and grape leaves and live music. - ➤ The 21st Richmond Folk Festival will begin on Oct. 10 and run through Oct. 12 in Richmond — the free event will feature six stages and over 30 artists from around the world, with a new Allianz Amphitheater hosting shows on Oct. 11 and 12. Richmond Magazine
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ In September, the Fall Line Trail finished a 4.8-mile stretch linking the Ashland Trolley Line Trail to Woodman Road in Henrico County, marking a key step in the planned 43-mile route. Regional leaders said an additional 20 miles will be completed or under construction by the end of the year—bringing the project closer to its expected finish by 2030. VPM
- ➤ The city of Richmond is planning to build a solar farm on the east end landfill—adding plantings to help bees and other pollinators with the project. Richmond Times-Dispatch
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new Ronald McDonald House is coming to Jackson Ward with 50 rooms to support families with children needing medical care and to offer meals, laundry, and transportation services. REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Richmond city officials have not collected $31M in delinquent real estate taxes since previous leadership suspended collection efforts about five years ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic—leaving the city with a growing shortfall. Richmond Times-Dispatch

- ➤ Crews finished laying sod Friday at CarMax Park as they build the new home for the Richmond Flying Squirrels—foul poles and suite windows are installed while more upgrades are planned. The stadium will open by the start of next season. FOX Richmond
