- ➤ Vendors set up stalls at Rockwood Park for the Latino Farmers Market to help local Latino entrepreneurs sell foods, crafts, and other products—and the event will run every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. until November 1. 12 On Your Side
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Workers at Norfolk Botanical Garden voted to form a union with nearly two-thirds in favor and will join the IAM union after the National Labor Relations Board certifies the vote later this month. Union organizer Bridget Fitzgerald said workers want a stronger voice on safety rules and fair pay — many earn about $15 per hour. VPM
- ➤ Delaware-based LLCs Skyward Holdings and Aeris Investments purchased over 1,200 acres in Chesterfield zoned for data center projects for nearly $60 million—this deal may boost tech development and bring new job opportunities in the area. Richmond Times-Dispatch

HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Local research shows that low-income and Black Richmond residents faced more heat-related emergencies, with nearly 62% of 492 cases involving Black residents even though they make up only about 40% of the population. The study also finds that cooling shelters are too far apart—leaving many residents with few options during high heat. Richmond Times-Dispatch
- ➤ On July 25, three lifeguards at Pocahontas State Park experienced heat-related emergencies when the heat index hit 105 degrees—two were hospitalized after one fell from a stand and another had a medical incident in the parking lot. 6 News
